Men's Soccer Tear Fighting Tigers 3-1

COBLESKILL, NY- Senior captain Nick Haggerty continued his two week tear Tuesday afternoon, as the Southern Vermont College Men's Soccer team beat SUNY Cobleskill 3-1. Haggerty, who has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week two straight weeks, scored two goals for the Mountaineers in Tuesday's victory at Cobleskill. The two goals are the seventh and eighth goal in a four game stretch for the senior forward.

Haggerty put SVC on the board 22 minutes in, when Tommy Youngblood played a ball that Haggerty ran onto and beat the keeper. The Fighting Tigers answered back three minutes later when Matthew Toich collected a pass from Grantley McLeod at the top of the box and blasted it home.  The first half scoring wasn't complete however, until Erik Argueta scored his second penalty kick in as many games.

Haggerty put the Mountaineers up 3-1 when him and Argueta used a give and go in the box to beat the Cobleskill keeper. Southern Vermont controlled most of the play as they outshot the Fighting Tigers 18-14 and 13-5 on goal. SVC keeper Connor Anniello recorded his sixth win for the year by stopping four shots. Cobleskill keeper Brian Faulkner made 10 saves in the defeat.

Southern Vermont will host Daniel Webster in a rematch of the 2010 NECC championship game Saturday at 2:30PM. The match will be part of Southern Vermont's homecoming event.
