Mountaineers Cruise Past Eagles, 5-0

POULTNEY, Vt. - The visiting Southern Vermont College Mountaineers used four first-half goals to easily dismiss Green Mountain College 5-0 in men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon. SVC improved to 4-2 reaching the four win mark the fastest of any Mountaineer team in nearly 20 years while GMC fell to 0-4-1.
The Eagles were on its heels from the opening kick as they were under constant pressure from the Mountaineers. SVC broke through in the 14th minute when GMC conceded a penalty kick. Junior Tony Martinez scored his third goal of the year giving the Mountaineers the only goal they would need in the shutout victory.
Sophomore and captain Nick Haggerty added a second in the 31st followed by freshman Adrien Alexis in the 41st, and junior Ben Naaktgeboren netted the 4th goal only 38 seconds later.
Alexis tacked on one final goal in the second half making the final score line 5-0.
Elias Skiff and Aaron Eschler split the goalie duties for the Mountaineers grabbing three saves total in the shutout victory.
Southern Vermont heads to Wheelock College for an NECC game Sunday, September 20th, at 1:00 p.m.
