2009 NECC Mens Soccer Championship Pairings Announced
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Daniel Webster College has claimed the top seed for the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Soccer Championship, which begins with semifinal matchups on campus sites Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles (10-5 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a 6-1 conference record.
The Lesley University Lynx (14-3-2 overall) earned the #2 seed going 5-1-1 in conference play. The Newbury College Nighthawks (5-13 overall) finished with a 5-2 conference record taking the #3 seed, while the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers (10-7-1overall) earned the #4 seed with a 3-3-1 NECC finish.
Both the Mitchell College Mariners (5-11 overall) and the Elms College Blazers (5-13 overall) tied for fifth in conference action each with a 3-4 record in 2009 play.
As specified in the NECC men's soccer championship guidelines, a two-way tie will be broken first by head-to-head results. Mitchell defeated Elms 2-0 on October 10 earning the #5 seed, while Elms rounds out the tournament bracket at the #6 seed.
Both Daniel Webster and Lesley earned byes in the quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, November 4. #6 Elms will travel to #3 Newbury at Pine Manor for a 2:00 p.m. start. #5 Mitchell will travel to #4 Southern Vermont in Bennington, Vt. for a 2:00 p.m. start.
The semifinals will be held on Friday, November 6 and the 2009 NECC Championship match will take place on Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches. All published times are subject to change.
