Mountaineers Two Second-Half Goals Fuel 3-1 Victory

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team used a pair of second-half tallies to turn a halftime tie into a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory at Johnson State College on Tuesday at Minaert Field. The loss drops Johnson to 6-5-1 overall while Southern Vermont improves to 9-3-1.
The Mountaineers struck first at the 26:25 mark when Adrien Alexis took a long lead pass from Nick Haggerty and deposited it past Johnson keeper Steve Noyes.
Johnson would knot the score at 1-1 just before the half in the 43rd minute when Kaleb Willis floated a corner-kick that Christopher Keefer put a head on, redirected towards Victor Abass who then headed to the goal. The ball was tipped by the SVC keeper Elias Skiff but the ball trickled into the goal for the score.
The score would remain tied at 1-1 until the 69th minute when Alex Borini dribbled into the Johnson defense, found a seem to fire a shot, and beat Noyes to his left to give Southern Vermont the lead they would not relinquish. SVC would get the insurance goal less than two minutes later when Haggerty took a nice feed from Borini and recorded the third and final SVC goal of the day.
Noyes would finish the game with six saves while Skiff made seven stops for Mountaineer in the win.
Southern Vermont will play at New England Collegiate Conference foe Becker College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. as they look for double digits in the win column.
