Men's Hoops Swooped Past by Hawks

BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers were unable to stop the Becker Hawks conference win streak Saturday afternoon at the Mountaineer Athletic Center as SVC fell 81-52, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's basketball action.

SVC was led by NECC leading scorer Taeshon Johnson who scored 18 points. Freshman Hunter Stratton scored 13 points and drained three shots from beyond the arc.

In the victory Rajai Leggett led the way with a 29 point, 13 rebound performance. Leggett recorded the only double-double of the game. Terrance Favors scored 14 points and Yahmad Rountree added 12 off the bench. Jerome Cohen grabbed 12 rebounds in a tough performance on the glass.

In the first half Leggett led the Hawks out to a comfortable cushion with 15 points. Cohen also had a big first half with seven points and nine rebounds. The Hawks led by as many as 17 in the first half with 1:30 to go when Rountree made a layup from Leggett. In the second half it was all Becker again as the Hawks outscored SVC 43-29.

SVC drops to 2-20 while the Hawks are 19-4 overall and 14-0 in NECC play. Southern Vermont will be back in action Wednesday for its final home game of the season when they host Elms. Becker will look to continue its undefeated conference run as they travel to NECC second place team Wheelock on Tuesday at 7:30PM.
