Men’s Basketball Concludes Another Successful Camp
BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Southern Vermont College Men's basketball program concluded its annual summer camp Friday. The one week camp ran from Monday August 8 through Friday the 12th. This year's camp marks the seventh camp that the program has run all under Head Coach Mike McDonough. The camp was instructed by 2010-11 SVC standouts Lance Spratling and Taeshon Johnson along with Shea Bromerski and the SVC coaching staff.
The 2011 camp had 21 participants from Bennington, Hoosick Falls, Cambridge, and Connecticut. There were three participants from Connecticut all which returned this year after participating in last year's camp. The campers showed up each day from 8:30AM until noon to learn the basic skills of basketball. Some of the basic skills included shooting, free throws, dribbling, and defense, which were taught through a variety of drills and competitions.
"We strive to teach the basic skill development with an emphasis on team play and having fun." said McDonough. "We run the camp because the coaching staff and instructors enjoy the opportunity to work with these players. They are filled with energy and enthusiasm which makes it very enjoyable."
At the conclusion of the camp McDonough gave each camper an evaluation of the week. The evaluation included what the player did well, what they need to improve on, and how to improve on those aspects of their game.
"This was a great group of campers who worked very well together." reiterated McDonough. "Every camper was attentive and a sponge with an enthusiasm to learn and get better."
