Mountaineers Fall To Ephs and Get Edged By The Lasers At Williams Tourney

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Southern Vermont College men's basketball team was played well at the Williams Invitational dropped two games falling to the Ephs 98-74 on Friday and the Lasell College Lasers Saturday night 75-72.

The loss dropped SVC to 2-1 overall, while the Ephs came away 1-0.

Lance Spratling led the Mountaineers in scoring with 29 points, going 6-8 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Derrick Cenicola had 17 points, and senior forward Joe Karnik chipped in 16 points and five rebounds to round-out the SVC offense.

Williams was led by James Wang who posted 22 points (three triples) and Troy Wittington 15 points (5-6 from the field).

SVC falls to 2-2 overall, while the Lasers improved to 1-2.

Karnik posted a double-double (his third of the year) scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Cenicola had another solid outing chipping 17 for the second straight game. Rounding out the Mountaineer attack was Cam Herrington who had 14 points, eight rebounds; and Spratling who posted 11 points, four assists, and two blocks.

The Mountaineers went 10-20 from the free throw line which was a big contributor to the loss as the Lasers went 12-15 from the charity stripe.

Lasell was led by Javon Williams who posted a massive double-double with 24 points and 21 rebounds. Charles Horton was close behind with 23 points, 12 of which came from four triples.

SVC is back in action Tuesday, November 24th, at Skidmore College with a 8:00 p.m. scheduled.
