Warrington and Wells Win NECC Weekly Awards

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont baseball team has a few bash brothers of its own in Pat Warrington (Folcroft, Pa.) and Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) as the pair takes home New England Collegiate Conference Awards for the second straight week. Warrington was named the NECC Player of the Week while Wells was named the NECC Rookie of the Week as the duo had their way with every pitcher they faced.

Freshman centerfielder Warrington batted .588 (10-for-17), while chipping in six RBI and five runs for the Mountaineers. Warrington led his team to a 3-2 week, hitting safely in all five games, collecting multiple hits in three contests, and crushing two home runs.

"Pat [Warrington] had another great week hitting another two home runs and hitting .588 on the week," said Head Coach Don Schaffer. "Pat plays a solid centerfield for us, and always seems to come up with the big hit for us when we need it."

Warrington helped Southern Vermont sweep NECC opponent Mitchell, winning 6-3 in the opener and 10-8 in the nightcap. In the first game against the Mariners, he had a stellar performance going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, including one shot over the fence. He slugged .941 and posted a .611 on-base percentage, while finishing the week with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Freshman pitcher/catcher Wells batted .533 (8-for-15) with one double, two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored as the Mountaineers raced to a 3-2 weekly mark, including a 2-0 NECC weekly record.

"Eric [Wells] is a very enthusiastic leader, and had another strong week," said Coach Schaffer. "He is always getting on base for us, and by hitting .533 with two "bombs" on the week, showed that he is capable of hitting almost any pitcher. He well deserves this award."

Wells hit safely and scored at least one run in each of the four games behind the plate. He did not strike out in 15 trips to the plate and finished the week with an impressive 1.000 slugging and fielding percentage.
