Anna Maria Upends Baseball

Anna Maria got back on the winning track in today's win over Southern Vermont College in impressive fashion. Anna Maria exploded in the 2nd inning, scoring 5 of their 11 runs in that inning and never looked back in rout to their shutout.

J.K. Vaughn (Simsbury, CT) led the way by pitching 7 scoreless innings by only allowing 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. He also helped his cause from behind the plate with a 2 run double; his record is now 1-1. Tim Johnson (Bernardville, NJ) got the loss for Southern Vermont only pitching 4 innings and giving up 8 earned runs on 8 hits; he now falls to 1-5.

The offensive stars for Anna Maria 5 and 6 hitters, Jeff Lander (Gloucester, MA) and Ryan Brown (Worcester, MA). Lander batted 1.000 going 3 for 3 and while scoring 3 runs, while Brown went 4 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Matt Touhey (Mendon, MA) had a team high and game high 3 RBI's on 2 hits.

Southern Vermont's 5 hits were scattered among four of their players, with Kevin Warner (Averill Park, NY) leading the way with 2 hits on only 2 at bats after pinch hitting and taking over right field for John Wallner (Manchester, VT).

Anna Maria betters its record to 9-15. Southern Vermont (3-19) looks to rebound when they play at River College on Wednesday.
