Family Key to 2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

BENNINGTON, Vt.- On Saturday night, Southern Vermont College inducted two former Mountaineers into its Athletic Hall of Fame. Chad Levesque class of 98 and Chad Davis class of 99 were each enshrined in the Hall, as their plaques were unveiled in the Mountaineer Hall of Fame room. The ceremony was held with about 50 people in attendance to recognize the former athlete’s achievements. Levesque and Davis were the 19th and 20th individuals inducted into the Hall as there are also two teams represented.

Levesque was a four year standout baseball player in his time at Southern Vermont. He started in all 61 of his teams games throughout his four years. Levesque was named the team MVP in his senior season, as well as earning AD3I All-Northeast Honors. Today, Levesque is a police officer in Chicopee, Mass., where he is married to his wife Jody, whom he met at SVC. Chad and Jody have four kids, Hunter and triplets, Aiden, Griffen and Madison.

Levesque has also continued his involvement with baseball since his college career ended. He has coached at Division II American International College and in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) with the Holyoke Blue Sox. The former Mountaineer has also had the opportunity to throw batting practice for the Boston Red Sox.

Levesque thanked his wife Jody for helping him with the decision to stay at Southern Vermont for four years. He was also appreciative to his coaches at SVC, and Levesque also talked about the tremendous improvements that SVC has made since his time at the college. The former baseball standout expressed how it was great SVC plays in a conference now, with the opportunity to go to the NCAA tournament each year.

Davis was presented by his father Bob who talked about the competitive nature Chris always showed throughout his life. Bob went on to say Chris’ competitiveness is what got him to this point in all assets from a basketball player all the way to a father, husband, and a great son.

Chris Davis was a four year standout basketball player for the Mountaineers from 1995-1999. In his career he left SVC as the All-Time leading scorer with 1442 points, which has since been broke twice. Davis also is still Southern Vermont’s All Time leader in 3-point shots made in a single season (112) and in a career (285).

Davis was named MVP his senior season and was an All- Northeast DIII Honorable Mention selection that season. He was also the recipient of the 1999 Career Achievement Award. Chris is now a senior analyst in IT Release and Control with New York Independent System Operator. He resides in Latham, NY with his wife Megan and daughters Emma and Catherine.

In his speech Chris thanked his family for always being there for him and his dad for never missing a game. Chris again talked about the tremendous improvements that Southern Vermont has made in athletics and as a school. He also thanked his coaches and his former teammates who helped him achieve all of his accomplishments.

The Southern Vermont College Hall of Fame was started in 1994 when Mountaineer pioneer Bill Epstein was inducted. There are currently 20 people from coaches to players along with two teams.
