Weekly Summary:

•        Men’s volleyball went 0-3 in New England Collegiate Conference action last week with two losses to Endicott College and a squandered 2-0 lead to Newbury College at home. The Mountaineers were led on the week by junior outside hitter Anthony Barahona (Eagle Rock, Calif.) and sophomore middle Joey Dighton (Riverside, Calif.) who racked up 34 kills apiece. Barahona also recorded 25 digs in the loss to Newbury. Sophomore setter Herson Canta (Los Angeles, Calif.) averaged 25.7 assists per match (7.0/set).

 


Other Athletics News:


•        Baseball was chosen by New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) coaches to finish 7th in the preseason poll. The Mountaineers and first-year skipper Dave Gage return 17 players from a team that went 9-31 a season ago, 5-13 in the conference. 2012 Champion Daniel Webster College was selected first in the poll.

•        Softball was picked to finish 9th by NECC coaches in the preseason poll. Third-year coach Leanne Baker will see seven players come back from the 2012 crew that went 6-32 overall and 3-15 in the conference. Defending and four-time NECC Champion Lesley University was selected to repeat after gaining nine of the 10 first-place votes.
