Ten Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference

BENNINGTON, Vt.- Commissioner Del Malloy announced 89 student athletes to the New England Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference team for the winter/spring 2010-11 semester on Tuesday. Of the 89 athletes from the NECC 10 Southern Vermont College athletes were represented.

To be eligible for the NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standings. Student-athletes who competed in men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s tennis and men’s volleyball were eligible for the winter/spring NECC Academic All-Conference.

Starting with the winter sports senior forward Ben Naaktgeboren and sophomore Derrick Cenicola were represented from the Men’s basketball team. On the women’s side sports management major Alyssa Davis represented the Women’s basketball team. In Men’s Volleyball juniors Sean Moore and Matt Schwab earned Academic All-Conference honors. Davis along with Jocelyn Donlon also made the team as softball student-athletes. The SVC baseball team was represented by five student athletes including senior captains Dave Gage and Adam Northup. Naaktgeboren joined his baseball teammates along with junior outfielders Pat Warrington and Andrew Morin.

“This is a tremendous award for each of the student athletes.” said the Southern Vermont Athletics Department, “This achievement shows the true commitment and meaning to the word student-athlete.”
