SVC Alumni Harrier Dan Dix Named to GNAC Hall of Fame

Frey, Sports InformationBOSTON, Mass. – Southern Vermont College alumnus Dan Dix, class of 2002, was inducted into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Hall of Fame Thursday, August 12, at the inaugural induction ceremony, for his remarkable accomplishments on the men’s cross country team. Dix, who is a three-time GNAC Cross Country Champion (1999-2001), has a long list of accolades and is still running at a competitive level.
Dix has been named twice to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Cross Country Championships All-Conference Team (1999, 2001), twice to the NCAA Academic All-American Team, three times to the GNAC All-Academic Team, and he has earned the ECAC Scholar Athlete Award twice. His course records include: GNAC Championship five-mile (25:23), Rivier College five-mile (25:23), Western New England College five-mile (26:32), Castleton State College five-mile (26:41), SVC four-mile (21:10), and SVC five-mile (25:23). He also won first place in the 10K at the Williams College Track & Field Invitational.. Overall, Dix has led the way in the GNAC, winning the GNAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week 21 times.
SVC Sports Management Professor Robert Consalvo said, “Dan was not just a great cross-country runner but an excellent student as well. Dan is an outstanding role model for students who participate in sports as he combined the best of both worlds”.
Since graduating from Southern Vermont College in December of 2002 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies, Dix has been employed at All4 Inc., as an Air Quality Scientist. His specific area of expertise at All4 Inc. is air dispersion modeling and continuous ambient and meteorological monitoring.
Dix is still running and competing frequently; He currently has a
small equipment sponsorship with the Brooks ID program. In 2008, he
competed in the Philadelphia Marathon and ran a Boston qualifying
time of 3:00:20. In the spring of 2010 he competed in his
first Boston Marathon with a time of 3:07:16, qualifying him for
another Boston Marathon, which he plans to run next year.
In addition to marathons Dix has been competing in Xterra off-road trail races for the past three years. He recently was recognized by the organization as winning more Xterra races than any other person in the entire country. He plans on competing in the Xterra off-road trail national championships in Bend, Oregon this September.
